CASE DETAILS:

Defendant was unaware that substance she was carrying was a controlled substance. Police used a confidential informant to contact the target and make a series of controlled buys and she was found with cocaine on her person. As a result over 10 grams of cocaine was seized. Defense successfully argued that defendant, a poor and uneducated Colombian citizen was unaware of the fact that the substance she was ingesting herself and was distributing to the informant was cocaine.
