A local retail store sought to pursue felony charges after they apprehended the defendant for allegedly attempting to steal a pair of designer sunglasses, valued in excess of $300. Accordingly, the defendant was required to appear before a clerk magistrate at Boston Municipal Court to determine whether probable cause existed and whether the application for the criminal complaint should be granted.
